In the Bollywood industry, remaking a song is a common phenomenon. Although some of these remakes can be a blessing to listeners, other times they can be a complete disaster.
Here are the top 10 worst Bollywood songs remake that went way too far.
Making a remake of a beautiful song is a mistake. If you have the opportunity to create something new from scratch, do it. Anything else will almost certainly end up being a total “disaster”. And Bollywood remakes keep proving the same.
Worst Bollywood Songs Remake Shouldn’t Be Made
Here are the handpicked cases where Bollywood proved that remaking a classic number is a bad idea. An unordered list of worst Bollywood remakes
1. Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi
One of the worst Bollywood remakes has to be this one!
We all remember this beautiful Falguni Pathak song from the movie, Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin. If you’re a 90s kid, you must have definitely danced to the tunes of this song.
A new version of ‘Yaad Piya Ki Aane Lagi’ was released in 2019 by T-Series. Sung by Neha Kakkar and featuring Divya Khosla Kumar, this song is a really bad idea. There’s absolutely nothing good about this song. All in all, it fails to capture the magic of the original.
2. Ankhiyon se Goli Maare
A 2002 superhit song from “Ankhiyon Se Goli Maare” featured Raveena Tandon and the legendary Govinda.
Govinda and Raveena Tandon’s quirky dance moves forced us to groove on this one. It is a fast number with great foot-tapping music.
A remake was released in Pati Patni Aur Woh, a 2019 Bollywood film. It has become one of the worst Bollywood songs remake. The remake is like an empty version of the original one. It just came and vanished in thin air. Many people didn’t even realize if there’s a remake made.
The remake version stars Kartik Aryan, Bhumi Pednekar and Ananya Pandey.
3. Ek Do Teen
We love Madhuri Dixit in Ek Do Teen (Tezaab, 1988) and it has been etched in our memories forever. We haven’t forgotten this great number. But a remake in Baaghi 2 has ruined it for us.
Nothing can beat the magic created by Madhuri Dixit through her dance moves and expressions in the original classic song.
The remake version is from the movie Baghi 2 which features Jacqueline Fernandez and Tiger Shroff.
4. Chamma Chamma
This has to be the worst song remake ever.
Chamma Chamma song from the 1998 film, China Gate is an extremely popular song. It was picturized on Urmila Matondkar and sung by Alka Yagnik and the music was composed by Anu Malik. We love the song.
For no reason whatsoever, Fraud Saiyaan, a 2021 film, had a remake of the legendary song Chamma Chamma and blew it. Elli AvrRam showed some killer dance moves, but that’s it. Tanishk Bagchi created this song which was voiced by Neha Kakkar, Romy, Arun & Ikka.
5. Masakali
Delhi 6, a 2009 Bollywood film, had a beautiful song picturizing Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan.
The song Masakali also featured a pigeon named Masakali, comparing it to the free and carefree spirit of the female lead played by Sonam Kapoor in the streets of Old Delhi. The song had its own charm and resonated well with the audience.
The remake of Masakali referred to as Masakali 2.0 came in 2020 featuring Siddharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria which was an absolute bummer. I couldn’t even finish viewing the song.
The song was trashed by all the artists who created the original version. Masakali 2.0 made everyone re-visit the original version and cherish it even more. I suggest you don’t listen to the new version which doesn’t capture the essence of what the song is about.
6. The Wakhra Swag
Another worst Bollywood song remake is “The” Wakhra Swag.
Wakhra Swag is a Punjabi album released in 2015 that has just one song, Wakhra Swag. It’s a really catchy number composed by talented musicians such as Navv Inder and Badshah. We loved grooving to it.
And then came a remake, “The” Wakhra Swag from the movie, Judgemental Hai Kya in 2019. A remix no one asked for.
7. Leja Re
Leja Leja Re from the album Ustad & The Divas is an all-time favorite of many people.
It was voiced by the melody queen, Shreya Ghoshal, Ustad Sultan Khan, and Salim Merchant. Sandesh Shandilya gave the music for this song and the lyrics were beautifully penned down by Irshad Kamil.
Tanishk Bagchi recreated this song which was sung by Dhvani Bhanushali and titled it “Leja Re”. The magic of the original song couldn’t be recreated.
8. Dus Bahne 2.0
90s kids have grown up grooving to Dus Baahane Karke Le Gaya Dil from the Bollywood film, Dus. The song was a blockbuster and was loved immensely by the audience.
Baaghi 3 had a remake of this song, Dus Bahane 2.0. The movie stars Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor dressed up goth. The new version of this song is nothing like the original.
It would be unkind to anyone who loves the old version to allow them to listen to the new one.
9. Gulabi 2.0
In 1970, legends like Mohammed Rafi, R.D. Burman, and Anand Bakshi came together to produce a super hit song, ‘Gulabi Aankhein Jo Teri Dekhi’.
In 2017, a Bollywood film “Noor” starring Sonakshi Sinha had a new version of the timeless Gulabi song. Gulabi 2.0, as they call it. It ruined the original version completely. Why do they even try to make these 2.0 versions of a classic song?
10. Mere Angne Mein
I saved the worst for the last.
Mere Angne Mein is a 1981 iconic song from the film “Lawaris”. Amitabh’s Bachchan both sang and performed this song. It was hilarious and unforgettable.
Why on Earth did someone think of making a remake for this one? You cannot improve a perfect song. This song, like all other remakes, is disappointing. Tell me you didn’t know if a remake of Mere Angne Mein exists.
The song is recreated by the king of worst remakes, Tanishk Bagchi with the vocals by Neha Kakkar and Raja Hasan in 2020. The lyrics have been written by Vayu.
All remakes are a bummer. They rob the originals of their magic that made them so great. That’s why every musician hates a remake.
Which of the Bollywood song remakes do you hate? Did we miss any other terrible remake?
