For many people, the holiday season begins on Christmas Eve and ends with New Year’s Day. That means we have a long stretch of time dedicated to the family, celebration, and our favorite movies and TV shows. Sometimes it can feel like too much time and we’re not sure how to fill it.

Christmas celebration is huge in western countries but lately, India has also been catching up with the tradition. Mainly because of the vacation that falls during the “season of joy”.

We get super excited before the start of every vacation but when they actually start we are not left with much to do and end up getting bored.

Whether it’s the food, the songs, the movies, or even the shows, there are many things that can make your Christmas memorable.

So this time in order to keep the Christmas spirit alive, we bring you a selected list of good TV series to binge-watch on Christmas.

1. Squid Game

The first TV show on our list is Netflix’s most-watched series in November 2021, the Squid Game.

The series revolves around 456 players who risk their life for a game to win a potential ₩45.6 billion grand prize. The death of each player adds ₩100 million to the prize.

It is surprising how a Korean thriller about adults playing playground games to the death become the biggest show in the world.

The players are made to wear green tracksuits and are kept under watch at all times by masked guards in pink jumpsuits. The show will keep you hooked till the end of it.

Must watch this show which people can’t stop talking about.

Fun Fact about Squid Game: Hwang (writer and director) wrote the series in 2009 but couldn’t get the funding. Finally in 2019, when he got the funding, he started filming it. Imagine we could have seen it 10 years ago. 

Squid Game earned a rating of 8 out of 10 on IMDb and got 94% on Rotten Tomatoes. This is one of the best TV series you can watch on Christmas, available on Netflix.

2. Emily in Paris Season 2

The second season of Emily in Paris was released on December 22, 2021.

The show is about Emily, a driven 20-something American from Chicago who moves to Paris for an unexpected job opportunity. Her task was to bring an American point of view to a venerable French marketing firm. The show is a delight.

Season 1 of the show has garnered massive popularity and now Season 2 is highly anticipated.

Watch this show for Emily’s adventurous and interesting life, stunning visuals of the city of Romance, Paris, big fashion moments, charming French men, and an interesting plot.

3. Sex Education Season 3

This is a very popular British comedy-drama series written and created by Laurie Nunn.

The show is about how sex can affect a teenager socially and psychologically. In contrast to what the title suggests, the show entertains and educates without being preachy.

The first season of which came in 2019. The third season came only recently in September 2021. So, there is a possibility that you might have watched it already. Not to worry, there are nine other recommendations waiting for you. For those of you who haven’t, you MUST. The hype around the show is all justified.

Season 3 introduces new love stories, new dilemmas, and the growth of every character. The show starts with an unexpected relationship between Ruby (Mimi Keene) and Otis (Asa Butterfield) and the new headmaster of Moordale Secondary School.

I wasn’t planning on watching this show but when I did, I loved and admired everything about it: heartwarming friendship, a lovable cast, a laugh-out-loud moment every 10 minutes, great supporting characters, and hilarious catchphrases.

Once you start watching it, you will understand the reason behind the crazy love the show has received. There is so much for you in the store.

Sex Education Season 3 has a rating of 8.3 out of 10 on IMDb and 97% on Rotten Tomatoes. All three seasons can be watched on Netflix.

4. Bridegerton

Eight closely-knit siblings of the Bridgerton family live and work in London high society. They look for love and happiness but aren’t above using their considerable charms to get what they want. The series is inspired by Julia Quinn’s bestselling novel.

The cast is pretty good and the writing is top-notch. It is also one of the most-watched shows on Netflix in 2021. 

Season 2 is expected in early 2022. Netflix has already released a teaser on Youtube.

Bridgerton scored 7.3 out of 10 on IMDb and 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. Can be watched on Netflix.

5. Money Heist

Money Heist is a Spanish heist crime drama television series created by Álex Pina.

In Madrid, a mysterious man known as “The Professor” recruits a group of eight people, who choose city names as their aliases, to carry out an ambitious plan that involves entering the Royal Mint of Spain and escaping with a million euros.

The popularity of the show is humongous. It has become the top TV show in the world. 

If you haven’t already. this is the best TV series to watch on Christmas with your family.

Season 5 (Volume 2) of Money Heist premiered on 3rd December 2021.

Money Heist scored 8.2 out of 10 on IMDb and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes. Available on Netflix.

6. Maid

Alex Russell, who plays the part of a hard-working single mother of two, leaves her abusive boyfriend and takes her two-year-old daughter to a shelter.

She gets a job cleaning houses at Value Maids. Alex’s struggles with raising a young daughter, dealing with an abusive ex-boyfriend, and working as a writer and a maid all come to the fore in the show.

The show launched in October 2021 on Netflix. A mother’s love and strength for her daughter are unmatchable and it’s interesting to watch it come alive on a show. 

Maid scored 8.4 out of 10 on IMDb and 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.

7. Mare of Easttown

Mare of Easttown is an American crime drama limited series created by Brad Inglesby for HBO. 

Mare is a local hero. She won a high school basketball championship 25 years ago. She has also been unable to solve the case of another missing young girl for a year, leading many in the community to doubt her detective skills.

Her personal troubles include a divorce, a son lost to suicide, and a custody battle with her ex-heroin addict former daughter-in-law over her grandson.

A must-watch TV show for Kate Winslet fans. Mare of Easttown has a rating of 8.5 out of 10 on IMDb and 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Available on Disney+ Hotstar.

8. The Witcher Season 2 

The Witcher would not be complete without mentioning the most widely-recognized and popular fantasy series of all time: Game of Thrones. If you’re a fan of dark fantasy series and characters with superpowers excite you, this show is for you. 

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich wrote The Witcher based on her own reading of the books written by Sapkowski. The best way to enjoy the series is through the eyes of its lead character Geralt of Rivia. He’s a solitary monster hunter who struggles to find his place in a world where people are more wicked than monsters and beasts.

His destiny propels him toward a powerful sorceress and a young princess with a special gift. The trio learns to navigate independently the increasingly volatile Continent.

Season 2 of The Witcher was released on December 17, 2021.

If you’re anything like me, then you absolutely love spending time watching TV shows and movies during the holidays. I hope you can find one of your kind from the list above.

Though, this list is not scientific and in fact, many of the shows are not even on TV anymore, but you can find all of them on OTT platforms.
